Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait - Egypt Donates 200 Thousand Egyptian Pounds to Ahl Masr Foundation as a Contribution in building the Largest Non-profit Burn Hospital in the Middle East and Africa

Cairo, Egypt; 26th May, 2017 -  Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait - Egypt (ABK – Egypt) issued a donation for 200 Thousand Egyptian Pounds to Ahl Masr Foundation as a contribution in the construction of the largest hospital to cure burn injuries for free in the Middle East and Africa. This contribution comes in line with ABK – Egypt’s strong belief in the importance of corporate social responsibility in developing societies and in the leading role that large organizations have to play to support the communities where they operate.

Commenting on this contribution, Mr. Khaled El Salawy, CEO and Managing Director of Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait - Egypt, said; "ABK spares no efforts to participate in various initiatives that would enhance all aspects of the Egyptian society. We are committed to our role to contribute in fulfilling the various needs of underprivileged, as we believe that the development of the Egyptian society and economy is a chief objective that all sectors of our Community should cooperate to achieve.

It is worth noting that burns are among the most marginalized injuries in Egypt despite their extremely hazardous long-term physical and psychological effects.  Burns are also considered one of the most common injuries in Egypt and among the highest causes of mortality. According to the World Health Organization, Burns are the 3rd leading cause of death in Egypt. The number of burns’ victims in Egypt exceeds 100.000 victims yearly. This means that almost 300 patients suffer from burn injuries every day.

Mrs. Heba El Sweedy, Founder and Chairwoman of Ahl Masr Foundation expressed her appreciation towards ABK – Egypt’s contribution stating; "We extend our sincere gratitude to ABK - Egypt for this kind contribution and we look forward to many successful partnerships that will help us build this new hospital that will give hope to burns’ victims in Egypt.” 

Ahl Masr Foundation was established in 2013 as the first non-profit organization in Egypt and the Middle East to focus on the prevention and treatment of burns. The foundation focuses on providing free treatment and comprehensive care to burn survivors all over Egypt and plans to build Ahl Masr Non-profit Burn hospital on a surface area of more than 45,500 square meters in the 1st Settlement with a capacity of 120 beds in the first phase.
